About the position:

The Australian Embassy in Lima requires a bilingual (spoken and written English and Spanish) intern. The position would suit a strong performing higher education student currently in their last years of studies or a recent graduate (all disciplines considered, especially Communications, Social Sciences and International Relations).  The candidate must have a strong interest in and knowledge of social media management: including video creation, image edition and graphic design programs and tools.

The intern will report to the Embassy´s Public Affairs Officer and will:

·         support the Embassy’s policy team in the implementation of its Public Diplomacy Strategy;

·         support the Embassy’s implementation of its Economic and Digital Diplomacy strategies, particularly the creation of content for social media;

·         assist in the organisation of events and visits;

·         undertake economic and political research; and

·         support the policy team with a range of daily tasks.

The period of the internship will start on the June 2019 and its duration is negotiable, but generally would run for six months.

·         a résumé which covers educational qualifications, any previous work experience, and the names and contact details of two personal/academic/work references (two page maximum); and

·         a cover letter to the Embassy which sets out why the applicant would make a good intern (one page maximum).


The key responsibilities of the position include:

1.    Public and Digital Diplomacy - assist with:

a.   planning and holding creative Embassy events

b.   implementing the Embassy´s innovative social media strategy, including creating content (photographs, video, infographics, etc. for our three platforms: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram)

c.   preparing media releases and digital publications promoting the work of the Embassy


2.    Major Events and Visits

a.    assisting with event management and other tasks during high level visits


3.    Political/Economic – assist with

a.    monitoring political and economic developments in Peru and Bolivia

b.    researching various political, trade and economic topics and assist with translations of information

c.     other duties as required.


Required skills: 

·         High-level communication skills, including the ability to fluently communicate, written and orally, in English and Spanish.

·         Social media and digital communication skills, including video making/editing and graphic design

·         Strong organisation and IT skills

·         Awareness of international relations, trade and politics

·         Ability to undertake research and present that research in a coherent manner

·         Positive team player with a flexible, open and professional approach

·         Ability to learn and work creatively, to act on initiative and proactively.

·         Previous work experience, extra-curricular activities and/or volunteer work will be valued.

Internships at the Australian Embassy are not salaried positions. However, interns will receive a stipend equivalent to the local minimum wage.  Applicants must have the legal right to work in Peru prior to applying.

Programa de visas "Work and Holiday" 

En mayo del 2017, Australia y Perú acordaron implementar un Acuerdo de Visas de Vacaciones y Trabajo. Este acuerdo recíproco actualmente permite que hasta 1500 jóvenes peruanos experimenten vacaciones combinadas con trabajo en Australia y que los jóvenes australianos hagan lo mismo en Perú.

La visa de Vacaciones y Trabajo ofrece a los participantes una singular oportunidad que se presenta sólo una vez en la vida. También es una oportunidad para el intercambio cultural y la construcción de vínculos más estrechos entre Perú y Australia.
